Welcome to Renkum

Enjoying yourself in the country!
On the south side of the Veluwe, where the woods and hills change into the vast river area, lies the rural district of Renkum, which offers a host of activities: climbing the 'Hemelse berg', cycling along the Italian road, enjoying the romantic views in the Zwiersdal and roaming the dark woods on Quadenoord country estate.

Battlefor Arnhem
The Battle for Arnhem took place in September 1944, during World War II. To this day the memory of this devastating event lives on in the rural district of Renkum. The Airborne Museum 'Hartenstein' in Oosterbeek gives you an idea of what the Battle for Arnhem was like for those who experienced it. The extension of the 'Airborne Experience' makes it possible to experience what it is like to live through war in the landscape of the battle. Last year Renkum and Ede joined forces for the benefit of the Airborne commemorations, resulting in a joint 'Airborne Feelings' programme in both districts.

Setting off
The rural district of Renkum comprises six villages: Oosterbeek, Heveadorp, Doorwerth, Wolfheze, Renkum and Heelsum. The villages are nestled in the rolling landscape of heaths and woods, alternated with farming land criss-crossed with brooks. The rural district of Renkum is part of the extensive bicycle route system with various signposted cycle routes. Walkers can take a break at De Zomp botanical garden. And how about setting off with a forester or going for a horse tram ride? Children can indulge themselves at Doorwerth Castle, which offers a varied programme all year. Horse lovers will come into their own on the numerous signposted bridle routes in the woods. There is also a special route for mountain bikers and if you prefer to sit down, have something to eat and drink and 'digest' your experiences there are plenty of places to choose from. A stay in Renkum will be unforgettable!
